About Us

Stop the Truck is a country band based in Austin, Texas. An original and traditional Texas country band, Stop the Truck is a Texas honky-tonk dream come true.

image The band is comprised of veteran songwriters Alan Moe Monsarrat on bass and lead vocals and Steve Carter on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, along with swing genius Boomer Norman on Telecaster and all driven by percussionist Miguel Pankratz.

Whether it's Western Swing, a Texas waltz, or a kick-ass rockin' rodeo anthem, Stop the Truck fills the bill. Known for their masterful lyrics and exceptional harmonies set to Miguel's dynamic drumming and coupled with Telecaster-legend Boomer Norman, Stop the Truck is fast becoming an international Texas icon.

Carter and Monsarrat have been performing in central Texas for more than a quarter of a century. Pioneers in the emerging Austin reggae scene of the 1970s, Moe and Steve met while performing with Austin's sensational Lotions. Steve later joined Pressure while Moe went on to front a unique and ultimately influential country-reggae band, I-Tex.

While Moe was writing and performing country reggae, Steve was scoring hits with Norwegian country superstar, Steinar Albrigtsen. With many songwriting credits already under their belts, Steve and Moe began collaborating on a series of traditional style country songs, and in 1995 they began recording. These sessions became Stop the Truck.

Stop the Truck in a ghost-town While sticking to traditional roots, Stop the Truck strikes a chord with contemporary themes as well. Their lyrics often express relevance though sometimes politically archaic notions. With humor as well as emotion carrying the listener's interest, Stop the Truck deals with issues others can't or won't -- like is two-stepping more fun than twelve-stepping? Men still want to howl at beautiful women! And, like it or not, you have to work for a living.

Stop the Truck has recently released their forth CD, Sendero, recorded in the Cedar Valley Sound Studio at the Stop The Truck Headquarters in Austin. This CD is the closest thing yet to the authentic Stop The Truck experience. This album reflects the continuing infuence of Texas music great, Freddy Powers, both in song selection and performance style. Most of the songs on this album were written by Moe, Steve, and other contemporary Texas songwriters. These are songs that reflect life in the Texas hill country. From the driving rendition of Moe Monsarrat's Honky Tonk Zone to the beautiful swing of Freddy Powers's San Antonio Rose, Stop the Truck runs the gamut -- pedal to the metal-- from the outrageous to the sublime.

Stop the Truck in a ghost-town Stop the Truck has entertained all variety of fans, ranging from the famous Broken Spoke in Austin, to the small-town honky-tonks of West Texas, to sold-out performances for crowds of international country music fans in Holland, France, and Spain.
